Elementary School Counselors

LEUSD has welcomed Elementary School Counselors to the team. We can now offer another support layer to the 15 elementary schools throughout the school district. Elementary school counselors, guided by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) pillars, are dedicated to promoting young students' academic, career, and social/emotional development. These professionals align their efforts with the following fundamental principles:
  1. Academic Development:

    • Goal: To support and enhance students' academic success.
    • Activities: Collaborating with teachers to address learning challenges, providing study skills support, and assisting in academic goal-setting.
  2. Career Development:

    • Goal: Helping students explore and understand the world of work and career possibilities.
    • Activities: Introducing age-appropriate career exploration activities, facilitating discussions about interests and strengths, and promoting awareness of future educational opportunities.
  3. Social/Emotional Development:

    • Goal: Nurturing the personal and social skills essential for learning and lifelong success.
    • Activities: Conducting individual and group counseling sessions, implementing social-emotional learning programs, and addressing issues such as bullying, conflict resolution, and self-esteem.
  4. Collaboration:

    • Goal: Partnering with educators, parents, and the community to support student success.
    • Activities: Collaborating with teachers to create a positive and inclusive school climate, involving parents in their child's educational journey, and connecting students with external resources as needed.

Incorporating these ASCA pillars, elementary school counselors play a pivotal role in creating a holistic and supportive environment that empowers students to achieve their full potential academically, personally, and socially.
