The Governing Board voted on Dec. 16 to move forward with the closure of Butterfield Elementary School beginning with the 2010-11 school year, coupled with the conversion of Lakeland Village Middle School to a K-8 campus, and the phased-in conversion of Luiseno Elementary School to a K-8. One idea that has come up numerous times during budget discussions is the idea of shortening the school week to four days. Parents can enroll their children in kindergarten through 5th grade in the district's child care program, which will begin in the fall.
