Adult Transition Program (ATP)

The Adult Transition Program (ATP) supports special needs adults ages 18 to 22 and prepares them for adult life. A variety of settings are available to meet the needs of all adult students. Our special needs students who have completed high school with a certificate of completion are encouraged to continue their education through the semester in which they turn age 22. The program is located on the Jean Hayman Training Center campus. Functional living, Independent living and Vocational Skill acquisition are the primary focus. LEUSD's Adult Transition Program combines workplace skills training with IEP-driven curriculum to build self-confidence, individual responsibility, and the motivation for participants to give their best effort.

The school day is from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Before school and after school adult care is not available.

Interested in join the Adult Transition Program (ATP)?

Program participants must be:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Completed high school with a certificate of completion (not a diploma)
  • Willing to work to the best of their ability both in the classroom and during job-coaching/vocational skills training
  • Eager to learn from their job coaches, employers, and teachers
  • Able to meet business dress code standards during internships
  • Willing to follow the social contract and related rules of conduct

How to enroll:

Transition from High School

Transition IEP's will be held each April. Members will be the students high school IEP team, the ATP IEP team as well as members of IRC and DOR will be invited. Parents will also be afforded the opportunity to tour the ATP program. *It is important to remember that if parents have not obtained legal conservatorship documents, the student will be making all of their IEP decisions and will be at each IEP meeting*
