Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI)

What is CYBHI?

The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) has launched the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI) to increase access to mental health services for children and youth across California. Since children spend much of their time in school, the state has created a system to allow school-based providers to seek reimbursement for services through qualifying health insurance plans. This funding can be used by districts to expand access, strengthen service infrastructure, increase capacity, and build wellness- focused systems of care.

How is our District Involved?

Our district has taken several steps in order to participate in this initiative, according to readiness requirements outlined by the state of California. This includes showing that our district is equipped to collect family insurance information, can meet documentation requirements, can convert school-based mental health services into billable claims, and maintains compliance with FERPA, HIPAA and other state and legal requirements.

You Can Help!

In order to allow our district staff to continue to provide support services at no cost to your student(s), student’s detailed medical insurance information will be collected, including type of insurance and policyholder information. This enables our school sites to successfully utilize the billing function of CYBHI.
