LEUSD has welcomed Elementary School Counselors to the team. We can now offer another support layer to the 15 elementary schools throughout the school district. Elementary school counselors, guided by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) pillars, are dedicated to promoting young students' academic, career, and social/emotional development. Lake Elsinore Unified School District cares about supporting both the hearts and minds of our students. To better understand how students are experiencing school and developing important social-emotional skills, we use a short Student Experience Survey called PULSE.

The information gathered helps schools better understand student experiences and identify ways to strengthen supports that help students succeed.

Below are frequently asked questions about the PULSE Student Experience Survey.

The PULSE Survey focuses on students’ school experiences and social-emotional learning, such as their sense of connection at school, how supported they feel by adults, and how they manage challenges.

The survey does not ask students about personal mental health diagnoses or therapy-related topics. The questions are designed to help schools better understand student experiences and strengthen support for student success.

The PULSE Survey helps schools:

• Understand how students are experiencing school
• Learn how students are developing important social-emotional skills
• Identify areas where students may benefit from additional support
• Improve programs that support student success and well-being

The survey is available for students in participating grade levels at participating schools.

Students will take the survey one time during the 2025–2026 school year.

This year, the PULSE Survey is being used as a pilot to help LEUSD strengthen how we understand student experiences and social-emotional learning across our schools.

Each participating school will schedule the survey on a day that works best for their site. Parents and guardians will receive notification through ParentSquare, the district’s communication platform.

The survey is brief and typically takes about 5–10 minutes to complete.

Students will log in using their district student ID. This allows schools to understand student responses and, when appropriate, connect students with available support.

Yes. Transparency is important to us.

All survey questions are posted below on this page so families can review them in advance.

No. Participation in the PULSE Survey is voluntary.

Students may choose not to participate, and there is no penalty or consequence for not completing the survey. Participation is encouraged because student responses help us better understand student needs and improve programs that support student success and well-being.

If you prefer that your child not participate, you may complete an Opt-Out Form.

The form is available below on this page or may be requested from your child’s school office. Completed Opt-Out Forms should be returned to your child’s school.

Survey responses help schools understand overall student experiences and identify where additional support may be helpful.

Results may be reviewed at the school and district level to help guide programs, resources, and supports that strengthen student success and social-emotional development.

Survey results are reviewed by school administrators and school counselors at each school site. At the high school level, school social workers may also review results. At the district level, results are reviewed by the Director of Mental Health Services.

If a student’s responses indicate they may benefit from additional support, a school staff member may connect with the student to better understand their needs and help connect them with appropriate school supports or resources.
