The Accounts Payable Department is responsible for the following activities:

• Payment of all District Invoices (except student activity payments)
• Conference reimbursements
• Process and Payment of all District contracts and consultant agreements.

The Accounting Services Department is responsible for the following accounting activities:

• Collecting and depositing cash receipts
• Monitoring student activity funds
• Reconciling petty cash accounts
• Maintaining the District’s ledgers

The Lake Elsinore Unified School District budget is developed through a course of planning, reporting, and updating during the fiscal year, July 1st to June 30th. The initial budget is adopted by the Lake Elsinore Unified School District Board of Trustees before the start of the fiscal year. Budget updates are formally known as the 1st Interim and 2nd Interim Financial Reports.

Background

Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 36 of the California Constitution, school districts, county offices of education, and community college districts are required to determine how the money received from the Education Protection Account (EPA) are spent in schools within its jurisdiction, provided that the governing board makes the spending determinations in an open session of a public meeting.

There is also a requirement for each school district to annually post on its website an account of how much money was received from EPA and how that money was spent. A current accounting summary of LEUSD's EPA allocation and expenditures is available at bottom.
